Applications are now open for the 2027 University of Pretoria MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program. The University of Pretoria (UP), in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, has been offering scholarships and wraparound support to high-achieving young Africans pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate (Honours and Masters) degrees since January 2014. 

The university and the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program entered into a phase 2 agreement in December 2023 to support more young people on the continent. In January 2024 a new phase 2 cohort commenced their studies.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The target groups are young Africans who are academically talented young people facing economic and social barriers, inclusive of those living with disabilities and internally displaced persons/refugees that will contribute to the transformation of the continent through their knowledge, skills, attitudes and values, evidenced by their leadership. 

Community service and internships are essential components of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, including entrepreneurship. Upon the completion of their studies, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program alumni commit to giving back in ways that enhance the economic growth and social development of their communities and the continent.

Eligibility Requirements

A candidate should meet the next standards with the intention of being thought of for Mastercard Foundation Scholarships:

  • The University of Pretoria Scholarship is open to candidates from Africa.
  • Applications are welcome from candidates searching for an undergraduate or postgraduate diploma.
  • A candidate should have expertise in neighbourhood service and management.
  • Candidates are additionally anticipated to take care of an excessive tutorial common all through their tutorial careers.
  • Candidates should exhibit monetary want and come from economically deprived backgrounds.

Application Procedure:

Students who are interested in studies at the University of Pretoria and wish to apply for The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program must follow the application process.

Step 1

YOU MUST APPLY TO UP FIRST to initiate the application process. Then download and complete the hard copy of the relevant application form provided below: undergraduate-application-2027 or postgraduate-application-2027

Step 2

Submit your application electronically to mcfsp@up.ac.za. For additional information or inquiries, contact us at +27 (0)12 420 4297 or via email at mcfsp@up.ac.za. Ensure that all required supporting documentation is included with your submission.

Step 3

Post-submission, your application will undergo a review process. You will be notified of the outcome afterward. If you do not hear back from us, please assume your application was not successful.

Step 4

Prior to admission into the Program, all eligible candidates will undergo an interview as part of the selection process
