Global visual arts platform PhotoVogue has officially launched MENA Panorama, a major regional open call designed to support photographers, videographers, and multimedia artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) as well as members of the diaspora connected to the region. The initiative, announced on 21 May 2026, aims to amplify diverse visual storytelling and challenge stereotypical portrayals often associated with the MENA region.
The open call will remain active until 24 September 2026 and is free for all eligible participants aged 18 and above. Artists can submit photography, video, and multimedia projects through the Picter platform.
According to PhotoVogue, the initiative was created to “champion the plurality of voices” from the region while moving “beyond monolithic narratives” toward more authentic and nuanced forms of representation.
The program welcomes projects across multiple genres, including fashion photography, documentary work, portraiture, fine art, conceptual storytelling, and experimental visual practices. Organizers stated that they are searching for work with a strong artistic perspective, particularly projects exploring identity, belonging, culture, social realities, and evolving visual languages within the region.
PhotoVogue explained that the open call arrives during a period of “profound transformation across the region,” emphasizing the importance of allowing artists to represent themselves and their communities “on their own terms.”
Participants may submit a series of up to 15 images or combine photographs and video for multimedia projects. Applicants are also allowed to include a 60-second video trailer presenting their work. Artificial intelligence generated artwork, however, is not accepted within the competition guidelines.
The initiative includes financial grants totaling $8,000, which will be distributed among three selected artists. The highest award, the Outstanding Vision Grant, offers $4,500 to an artist whose work “redefines creative boundaries.” A second Vision Grant worth $2,000 will support an artist recognized for a unique artistic voice, while the Rising Voice Grant of $1,500 is intended for an emerging creative showing strong potential and originality.
Beyond funding, selected participants will gain significant international exposure. Winning and selected artists will showcase their projects during the 2027 PhotoVogue Festival and may also receive publication opportunities through Condé Nast titles across the region, including Vogue, GQ, Architectural Digest, and Condé Nast Traveler. Artists will additionally be invited to participate in PhotoVogue’s Virtual Portfolio Reviews.
The MENA Panorama initiative forms part of PhotoVogue’s broader strategy to promote global diversity in visual storytelling. Previous regional editions focused on Italy, Latin America, and East and Southeast Asia.
PhotoVogue described the program as part of its mission to shape “a more conscious visual culture” by discovering and supporting creative voices from different communities around the world.
The success of earlier regional open calls demonstrates the growing global interest in regional storytelling and underrepresented artistic perspectives. In September 2025, PhotoVogue announced 40 selected artists from its East and Southeast Asian Panorama initiative, featuring creators exploring themes such as identity, diaspora, family, gender, memory, and social change.
The selected artists from that program later exhibited their works during the 2026 PhotoVogue Festival in Milan, gaining international recognition and collaborations across Condé Nast publications worldwide.
By launching MENA Panorama, PhotoVogue appears to be extending this model toward the Middle East and North Africa, regions with rapidly evolving creative industries and growing global influence in art, fashion, film, and photography.
The initiative also reflects increasing international attention toward authentic cultural representation and locally driven storytelling. Rather than presenting a single narrative about the MENA region, the open call encourages artists to showcase multiple realities, identities, and experiences through innovative visual expression.
For many emerging artists across North Africa and the Middle East, opportunities connected to major global media platforms remain highly competitive and often inaccessible. Programs like MENA Panorama therefore provide valuable exposure, networking opportunities, and financial support capable of helping creatives expand their careers internationally.
As visual storytelling continues to shape conversations around identity, culture, migration, conflict, fashion, and social change, initiatives such as MENA Panorama highlight the growing importance of regional artistic voices in global media spaces. Through funding, mentorship, and international visibility, PhotoVogue’s latest open call may become an important platform for the next generation of influential image-makers from the MENA region and its diaspora.
