The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has opened applications for its ICANN88 Fellowship Program, offering individuals from around the world an opportunity to participate in one of the internet's leading global policy forums. The fellowship is designed to increase participation from underserved and underrepresented communities while building the next generation of internet governance leaders.
Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training, mentorship and financial support to attend the ICANN88 Community Forum, scheduled to take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 13 to 18 March 2027. The program covers travel assistance for in-person participation and also provides learning opportunities if the meeting is held virtually.
The fellowship is open to individuals from all regions and professional backgrounds who have an interest in internet governance, domain name systems, cybersecurity, digital policy and the future of the global internet. Participants are paired with experienced mentors and undergo training before, during and after the conference to strengthen their understanding of ICANN's multistakeholder decision-making model.
"The goal of the ICANN Fellowship Program is to strengthen the representation of the multistakeholder model by fostering opportunities for individuals from underserved and underrepresented communities to become active participants in the ICANN community."

Beyond attending the conference, fellows are expected to engage in mentoring sessions, complete ICANN Learn courses, participate in networking events and remain active within the ICANN community after the program concludes. The initiative aims to build a diverse network of professionals who can contribute to global discussions on internet policy and digital infrastructure.
The fellowship is particularly valuable for students, researchers, technology professionals, policymakers and civil society leaders seeking international exposure and practical experience in shaping the future of the internet. Since its launch, the program has supported hundreds of participants from developing countries, helping many advances into leadership positions within the global internet governance ecosystem.
Applications for the ICANN88 Fellowship Program are currently open and will close on 21 August 2026 at 23:59 UTC. Selected fellows will be announced on 10 November 2026.
"Fellows are exposed to the workings of the ICANN community, are assigned a mentor, and receive training across different areas of knowledge and skill building before, during, and after an ICANN Public Meeting."
