The GIZ Uganda Green Financing Initiative, in partnership with the IYBA WE4A Project and Melanin Kapital, is a dedicated program designed to support women entrepreneurs in Africa who operate businesses contributing to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

Eligible Countries

The initiative is open to women-led businesses in:

  • Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, Togo, and Uganda.

Target Sectors

Eligible businesses must operate within "green" industries, including:

  • Clean Technology: Solar and energy-efficient systems.

  • Renewable Energy: Solar, wind, and bioenergy.

  • Sustainable Agriculture: Innovative, eco-friendly farming.

  • Circular Economy: Recycling, waste reduction, and resource efficiency.

  • Eco-friendly Manufacturing: Low environmental footprint production.

Financial Products Offered

The program provides two specific types of loans tailored to the business's growth stage:

  1. Green Asset Financing (For Small Scale/Emerging Enterprises)

    • Amount: $1,000 – $10,000.

    • Purpose: To acquire green technologies (e.g., solar systems, e-mobility).

    • Terms: 9–12 months repayment period with weekly installments.

  2. Working Capital Loan (For Established/Scaling Businesses)

    • Amount: $50,000 – $85,000.

    • Purpose: To support inventory, operational expansion, and larger orders.

    • Terms: 6–9 months repayment period with monthly installments.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Registration: Must be a registered business with at least 6 months of operational history.

  • Revenue: * Min. $5,000 annual revenue for Green Asset Financing.

    • Min. $10,000 annual revenue for Working Capital Loans.

  • Compliance: Must be tax-compliant and provide documentation (invoices, financial statements, etc.).

How to Apply

The application process is on a rolling basis, meaning there is no fixed deadline; entrepreneurs can apply whenever their business meets the criteria and requires the funding.
