As Africa’s digital economy continues expanding, more initiatives are emerging to ensure women are not left behind in the technology revolution. On May 14, 2026, African EdTech platform GetBundi officially announced the launch of the TechSis 2026 Scholarship Program, a major digital skills initiative backed by a $250,000 scholarship fund for African women.

The program aims to provide free online digital training to 3,000 women of African descent between the ages of 18 and 40 across Africa and the diaspora. According to the organizers, the initiative seeks to improve women’s participation in the technology ecosystem while preparing them for opportunities in the modern digital economy.

Applications for the 2026 cohort officially opened on May 15, 2026, and are expected to remain open for thirty days.

The scholarship program focuses on practical and high demand digital skills, including:

  • Content Creation
  • Digital Marketing
  • Data Analytics
  • Video Editing

Participants selected for the program will receive fully funded access to a four month online training course. Organizers explained that while the training itself is completely free, participants interested in receiving official certification at the end of the program may pay an optional certification fee of $10.

The launch of TechSis 2026 reflects broader efforts across Africa to address the continent’s digital gender gap. Despite the rapid growth of Africa’s technology industry, women remain underrepresented in many digital and technical fields. Access to training, mentorship, and employment opportunities has historically been uneven, particularly in emerging technology sectors.

GetBundi introduced TechSis in 2023 as part of its long-term mission to increase female participation in digital careers and technology driven industries. Since its launch, the initiative has expanded significantly each year.

According to program records:

  • the 2023 cohort trained 500 women in Coding
  • the 2024 cohort expanded to 1,000 women in Web Development and Data Analytics
  • the 2025 program trained 1,500 women in Data Analytics and Cybersecurity

The 2026 edition represents the largest cohort so far.

Speaking during the announcement, GetBundi founder Osita Oparaugo emphasized the importance of equipping African women with modern digital skills capable of creating long-term economic opportunities.

“Our mission is to equip African women with the digital skills they need to drive innovation, secure meaningful employment, and achieve economic independence.”

He further explained that TechSis is designed not only as a training initiative but also as a pathway into the global digital workforce.

“We are creating pathways for African women to enter and lead in the digital economy.”

One of the program’s notable developments is its partnership with Doballi, a Dubai based remote talent platform. Through this collaboration, some graduates from previous TechSis cohorts have reportedly secured remote employment opportunities with international companies.

This partnership highlights the increasing importance of remote work and online employment opportunities for African youth, especially women entering the technology sector. As global demand for digital talent continues rising, skills such as digital marketing, analytics, and content production are becoming increasingly valuable in international labor markets.

The program will reportedly include:

  • live virtual classes
  • mentorship sessions
  • practical projects
  • self-paced learning modules
  • professional masterclasses

All training activities will be delivered online, allowing women from different African countries and diaspora communities to participate regardless of location.

The launch of TechSis 2026 comes during a period when many African governments, institutions, and private organizations are investing more heavily in science, technology, and innovation. Across the continent, digital skills are increasingly viewed as essential for future economic growth and youth employment.

For many young African women, initiatives such as TechSis represent more than education alone. They provide access to global opportunities, financial independence, professional networks, and participation in industries shaping the future of work.

As Africa’s technology ecosystem continues expanding in 2026, program focused on inclusivity and digital empowerment may play an important role in ensuring that women are active contributors to the continent’s growing digital economy rather than passive observers.
