Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has officially opened applications for its 2026 Graduate Trainee Program, offering young Nigerian graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience and professional training in Africa’s rapidly growing oil and gas industry.
The announcement was made on May 7, 2026, as the company invited qualified graduates from different academic disciplines to apply for the highly competitive 18-month training program designed to develop future professionals for the refinery and petrochemical sector.
According to the company, the program targets “high-potential, vibrant, and enthusiastic initiative-takers” interested in building long-term careers within one of Africa’s largest industrial projects.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Zone in Lagos State, is widely recognized as the world’s largest single train refinery, with a refining capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. Industry experts say the graduate trainee program represents an important investment in developing local talent for Nigeria’s expanding energy and industrial sectors.
In an official statement announcing the program, Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals said:
“At Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, we are offering you the opportunity to join our 2026 Graduate Program.”
The company added:
"You will have a chance to learn and grow in a global business environment while supporting the growth of our organization.”
According to the program details, successful candidates will receive hands-on exposure across refinery operations while learning directly from experienced professionals in the oil and gas sector. The initiative is expected to equip trainees with technical expertise, leadership abilities and professional development skills necessary for careers in the energy industry.
Applications are open across three major categories: technical, technical support and support service disciplines.
For technical roles, eligible candidates must possess qualifications in Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, Mining Engineering, Geological Sciences, Laboratory Sciences or Biochemistry. Technical support positions are available for graduates in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering and Power Engineering.
The support services category includes opportunities for graduates in Accounting and Finance, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Humanities, Information Technology and Law.
According to Dangote Refinery, applicants must possess a minimum qualification of Second-Class Lower division or HND Upper Credit and must not be older than 28 years by May 31, 2026.
Industry analysts have described the program as a major opportunity for young Nigerian graduates struggling with unemployment and limited access to professional training opportunities. Nigeria continues to face high youth unemployment rates, with many graduates seeking pathways into industries capable of offering practical training, mentorship and long-term career growth.
Career development experts say programs such as the Dangote Graduate Trainee Program are increasingly important in bridging the gap between university education and industry requirements. The refinery’s large-scale operations are expected to expose trainees to real-world industrial processes and international operational standards.
Analysts also believe the program reflects Dangote Group’s broader commitment to strengthening local capacity and reducing dependence on foreign technical expertise in Nigeria’s energy sector. The refinery has continued expanding operations since production officially commenced in January 2024, with additional petrochemical and industrial projects currently under development.
Online discussions among Nigerian graduates have shown significant excitement surrounding the program, with many young people describing it as one of the most attractive graduate opportunities currently available in the country’s oil and gas industry.
However, some online reactions also focused on the program’s age requirement, with several graduates expressing concerns about the 28-year age limit announced by the company.
Despite the competition expected for available placements, career experts have encouraged eligible Nigerian graduates to apply, noting that the program could provide valuable industry exposure, technical competence and future employment opportunities within Nigeria’s growing industrial sector.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery Graduate Trainee Program 2026 is expected to attract thousands of applications nationwide as young professionals seek opportunities to participate in one of Africa’s most ambitious industrial and energy projects.
