Somalia has launched a nationwide startup initiative aimed at fostering innovation, supporting entrepreneurship, and creating employment opportunities for thousands of young people. The program marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to diversify its economy, strengthen the private sector, and position itself as an emerging hub for technology and innovation in the Horn of Africa.
The National Startup and Innovation Initiative was officially introduced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with government agencies, development partners, financial institutions, and private-sector stakeholders. Youth unemployment remains one of Somalia’s most pressing economic challenges, with a large proportion of the country’s population under the age of 30.
